Forest management firm Prentiss & Carlisle opens a new branch in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. Three new employees—Matt Carothers, Richard Congdon, and Andy Van Dyke—take on the responsibility to extend and develop the company’s professional network.

Prentiss & Carlisle, an 88-year-old forest management firm headquartered in Bangor, Maine, recently announced the opening of a new branch in Rhinelander.
According to Vice President William Miller, Rhinelander is the economic hub for a large part of northern Wisconsin, and the office’s geographic location will enable Prentiss & Carlisle to better serve that region as well as Michigan’s upper peninsula and Minnesota.
“Prentiss & Carlisle’s new office brings the firm and its services to key players in one of the region’s most powerful economic engines—the forest industry,” Miller said. “Major investment landowners, equipment manufacturers, conversion facility owners, and state and federal agency employees regularly pass through Rhinelander.”
Prentiss & Carlisle first established a Wisconsin presence with the 2005 acquisition of the Milwaukee-based consulting firm George Banzhaf & Company, gaining the lake states forestry expertise of the Banzhaf staff.
Three new employees have been hired to staff the Wisconsin branch, located at 3243 Golf Course Road: forester Matt Carothers, forester Richard Congdon, and forest technician Andy Van Dyke.
“We welcome these highly talented employees to our company,” Miller said. “We value their expertise, not only in forestry, but forestry specific to the Midwest.”
That experience includes management planning, timber procurement, timber sales administration, timber inventory, forestland tax program development, and the licensed use of commercial pesticides, Miller said.
Carothers received a bachelor’s in forest resource management from Michigan Technological University. Congdon holds a bachelor’s in forest administration and utilization and a minor in business administration from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, and Van Dyke recently graduated from Michigan Technological University with a bachelor’s in forestry.
The three will provide the integrated array of services that Prentiss & Carlisle is known for throughout the U.S. and Canada—services that complement the forestland appraisals offered out of the firm’s Milwaukee office: strategic, administrative, and operational forest management services; forest planning and management; woodlot services; wood products marketing; harvesting and transportation of timber; road/bridge building and maintenance; and consulting, valuation, and accounting services.
“This new location is a way to extend and develop our professional network,” Carothers said, “and to give a very diverse group of forestland owners another competitive choice.”
And the company’s new office is in the same building as Great Lakes Timber Professionals Association, which will “make it easy for people to find us,” Miller added.
