P&C is currently seeking a reliable, motivated, and experienced individual to serve as our Vice President of Forest Products as part of a pending management succession. The VP of Forest Products is the primary conduit between P&C’s forestry staff and the forest products marketplace. The ideal candidate for this role has a hands-on background in forestry, an understanding of forest products manufacturing, and strong experience with sales and/or procurement of regional forest products.
The responsibilities of the Vice President of Forest Products include the following:
- Develop strategic marketing plans to continually maximize revenue generated from timber sales.
- Negotiate the sale of all forest products with customers, and optimize the flow of forest products into the marketplace.
- Assist foresters to contract out services to complete harvest operations in an organized fashion that follow the market plans.
- Create and maintain CLS and stumpage agreements for all wood harvesting on P&C client lands.
- Coordinate with accounting staff to maintain & adjust all contracted service rates as needed.
- Work with the Forest Certification team to ensure all SFI and FSC certification requirements are met, especially Chain of Custody.
- Ensure customer service and quality of delivered forest products – ensure alignment with mill specifications while maximizing wood utilization.
- Assist in the preparation of stumpage bids and landowner proposals.
- Provide utilization coaching and advice to foresters & contractors through periodic visits and training.
- Monitor mill receivables and communicate with the customers as needed.
- Provide insight, color, and guidance to internal stakeholders regarding the dynamics of the forest products markets.
- Monitor trends and data on the regional marketplace and be the company’s expert on emerging opportunities and threats.

- Communication: Strong communication skills are an imperative to ensure our wood flow is coordinated, optimized, and of the highest quality for our customers. The VP must not only convey complex market dynamics clearly but also prioritize timely communication, prompt follow-through, and a strong sense of urgency to keep operations running smoothly and to capitalize on time-sensitive opportunities in a fast-moving marketplace.
- Collaboration: This role requires close collaboration with foresters, contractors, mills, accounting, and certification teams. Success hinges on the ability to build trust, coordinate priorities, and foster teamwork across many internal and external stakeholders.
- Negotiation: As the lead negotiator for all forest products sales and service contracts, an ideal candidate possesses strong negotiating skills to secure favorable agreements, optimize revenue, and build long term value for both P&C and its clients.
- Organization: Exceptional organization skills are critical to ensure smooth, compliant, and efficient execution of marketing plans and timber sales.
- Integrity: Operating at the intersection of landowner interests, market demands, and regulatory compliance, this role demands the highest level of integrity to maintain trust with all partners.
